Our Research Operations team designs and executes the human research studies that power Oura’s next-generation sensor development and scientific innovation and bolster our scientific credibility. The focus of the hardware research program is to develop and validate new features and continue to enhance the accuracy of our algorithms. In this role, you’ll support and execute the human research studies that unlock new features for Oura members across the project lifecycle, from study initiation and trial monitoring to data analysis.

This is a hybrid role, requiring 3+ days per week in the San Diego, CA office.

What you will do:

  • Support the progress of 2-5 hardware-focused human subjects research studies under the guidance of Research Project Managers and Research Scientists
  • Gain expertise in new and evolving data collection capabilities of the Oura Ring and the research studies currently in flight at Oura
  • Execute day-to-day study operations across sites, including scheduling, room and equipment setup, participant flow, and accurate capture of data from the Oura Ring and reference devices
  • Collaborate closely with a range of technical and non-technical teams to maintain high quality study documentation

Requirements:

We would love to have you on our team if you:

  • Have at least 1 year of experience in human subjects research in academic, commercial, or clinical settings, including experience with screening participants, obtaining IRB approval and consent, monitoring data and data flows, and documenting outcomes
  • Have experience working with physiological data (e.g., wearable tech, multimodal sensor data), medical devices, medical software, and/or product prototypes
  • Have a strong knowledge of and commitment to human subjects research ethics, Good Clinical Practice, and protecting participant and product privacy
  • Have a strong track record of contributing to high-quality, meticulously documented datasets
  • Are a problem-solver with the ability to troubleshoot research and data challenges
  • Are based in San Diego and available for regular on-site data collection and collaboration at least three days per week
  • Are willing to occasionally work flexible hours for site visits or global team calls (including Finland time zones)

We also appreciate if you have experience with the following:

  • Collaborating with both internal and external research partners
  • R, SQL, or Python
  • Multisite research trials
