SRE Tech Lead Manager
ŌURA
At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 2.5 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within — by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day.
We are looking for a Tech Lead Manager to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Squad in the US. Our global SRE team is responsible for governance, scalability and observability of the Oura AWS infrastructure. We are now building our SRE presence in the US, by establishing a new team that you would provide leadership for. One important part of the role is supporting our Commercial team in servicing Oura’s Enterprise customers with specific needs on data residency and compliance status.
We combine the power of the ring & the app with backend services and integrations to provide a data rich and secure platform. Our APIs power most Oura apps, services and machine learning components. Good reliability and scalability of the Cloud platform provides the technical foundation for our growth.
We have offices in San Francisco and San Diego for those who prefer hybrid or office settings. Oura employees in other major cities (like Boston and New York) occasionally gather informally at local co-working locations.
This is a remote US role with a preference for candidates based on the East Coast.
What you will do:
- Handle line management duties for engineers in the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) squad responsible for our AWS based cloud platform — coaching and supporting them in their career development
- Support our Commercial team to service our Enterprise customers with specific needs on data residency and compliance status
- Hold regular 1-on-1s with your engineers to continue to support their development and help them work through any blockers or challenges
- Enable company to reach its goals by innovating, building and operating the cloud platform reliably and efficiently
- Promote engineering excellence, establish key metrics, and drive continuous operational improvements
- Provide leadership for team initiatives by coordinating the work, facilitating the stakeholder discussions, driving problem solving when needed, ensuring adequate staffing and competence for a successful outcome
- Work with other engineering leaders to promote best practices and a culture of continuous improvement across the organization
- Collaborate with other engineering managers on how we lead the teams and clarify our vision and goals and to build a fantastic work environment for our engineers
- Create hiring plans and participate in recruitment to attract and retain the best talent around the world
We would love to have you on our team if you have:
- 7+ years of backend development experience with 2+ years managing or leading infrastructure focused teams
- Passion for building inclusive, high-performing teams, with a track record of mentoring engineers and supporting career growth.
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize ruthlessly in a dynamic and geographically distributed environment.
- A pragmatic can-do attitude and delivery-focused mindset; you can handle trade-offs between short-term goals and long-term tech debt
- Experience designing and and building data-intensive distributed systems in production environments, and you can apply the proper architectural patterns
- Experience designing for scale and growth; such as prepare for user demand peaks, and build fault tolerant and secure systems
- Experience from Healthcare or Government industries and supporting large enterprises
- Strong experience running, monitoring and debugging production systems at scale on AWS (We are running on AWS infrastructure and use key AWS services like EKS, RDS, S3, SQS, Kinesis, Lambda, and Dynamo DB)
