About Us
At Givers, we believe in a future where family members can sustainably care for one another. We enroll, support, and pay family caregivers through state Medicaid programs. We're mission-driven and rapidly growing.
Our technology platform powers everything we do — from caregiver onboarding to compliance to payments — and enables us to scale support to families across the US.
We are proudly building an in-office culture in NYC and believe the best systems are built by teams working closely together. This role is expected to be in office 4 days per week.
Job Description
At Givers, senior engineers don’t just write code — they improve how the system works, how the team builds, and how the company ships software at scale.
This role is responsible for designing, building, and operating high-quality software that increases Givers’ velocity without compromising stability. You will own features end-to-end while also improving the engineering systems that allow the entire team to build and ship software faster.
You will work across product features, internal tooling, and infrastructure, helping shape architecture, guardrails, observability, and AI-assisted development workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own features end-to-end from scoping → design → implementation → deployment → monitoring
- Build and ship production-ready features that improve the experience for caregivers, internal teams, and operations
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with strong observability and documentation
- Improve engineering systems and workflows (CI/CD, testing, deployment, developer experience)
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and reduce engineering friction
- Contribute to system architecture and help design modular, scalable, maintainable systems
- Establish and reinforce engineering standards, guardrails, and best practices
- Use AI tools effectively for development, debugging, testing, and refactoring
- Help evolve our AI-assisted development workflows and shared engineering context
- Provide thoughtful code reviews that raise code quality and shared understanding
- Mentor engineers through pairing, feedback, and architecture discussions
- Participate in production debugging, incident response, and blameless postmortems
Requirements
- Highly impact driven with a desire to see what you build benefit family caregivers (ideally with experience in health tech)
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Familiarity with our stack, spanning Ruby on Rails, React, React Native (Expo), Google Cloud Platform, Postgres, and GitHub Actions
- Strong experience building and shipping production systems end-to-end
- Experience designing scalable backend systems and APIs
- Strong understanding of system architecture, databases, and cloud infrastructure
- Proven ability to improve engineering systems, tooling, or workflows
- Experience writing well-tested, maintainable production code
- Comfortable working in fast-moving environments with high ownership
What Success Looks Like
Within your first year at Givers, you will:
- Ship multiple meaningful product features that improve user experience or internal operations
- Help reduce friction in key engineering workflows
- Contribute to architectural improvements that increase system clarity and scalability
- Help the team move faster while maintaining strong reliability and quality standards
- Mentor and elevate other engineers through thoughtful collaboration and code reviews
Core Values
- Impact Over Flash: We chase outcomes, not shiny objects. We focus on what truly moves the needle for caregivers and families — not what looks impressive from the outside. Substance beats spectacle, every time.
- Family-Grade Pride: We take pride in our work as if our own loved ones were the ones counting on it. We operate with care, integrity, and accountability.
- Play the Long Game: We build and operate for the future. We invest in strong fundamentals, solve problems to their core, make decisions that compound, and think in decades, not quarters. Sustainability beats shortcuts.
- Entrepreneurship, Every Day: We are owners. We embrace ambiguity by working from first principles and focus on speed to learnings through small bets, tight loops, quick iteration, and consistent calibration.
- Win Together: We always look for win-wins. We put mission above ego, collaborate intensely, and find common ground. We celebrate each other and never let the joy of this journey get lost behind the pursuit of a destination.
