Company Overview:

Function was founded with a singular focus: empower you to live 100 healthy years. We’re doing that by using the best available technology to make sure people don't suffer or die a preventable death. Function has been recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024, and is venture-backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).
Hundreds of thousands of members have joined Function to take control of their health. We are growing our team and seeking out world-class talent that deeply believes in our mission to positively impact global health, has a relentless bias toward action and a growth mindset. Function fosters a collaborative and dynamic environment, where every day we are building the future.

Role:

We’re seeking an Assistant Controller to help scale our Finance operations as Function continues rapid growth. This role will own the integrity and efficiency of our financial operations — leading the monthly close process, managing core general ledger activities, and implementing scalable systems and processes that support our next phase of growth.
You’ll play a key role in building the foundation of a world-class accounting organization: leading our close meetings, partnering cross-functionally with HR and Operations, and driving the implementation of our new ERP system (Rellit). The ideal candidate has seen scale before — someone who thrives in high-growth, fast-changing environments and brings both structure and adaptability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement ERP: Partner with the Corporate Controller to roll out Rillet (ERP), and establish best-in-class processes and internal controls.
  • Own the accounting close process: Lead month-end close and ensure accuracy, timeliness, compliance with GAAP, completeness of all journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee procure-to-pay: Manage the Close to Report, Procure to Pay, Fixed Assets, full cycle from purchasing through payments, ensuring strong controls and compliance.
  • Drive process improvement: Develop and implement SOPs, streamline workflows, and ensure systems are integrated and efficient as Function grows globally.
  • Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate closely with Operations, HR and other teams to align on financial processes.
  • Audit readiness: Develop documentation and controls for audit moving toward public readiness.
  • Manage and mentor: Lead one direct report initially, with the goal of building and scaling the team over the next year.
  • Champion accuracy and accountability: Uphold the highest standards of financial reporting and integrity.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • CPA required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and leadership experience, with a mix of Big 4 and in-house at a high-growth B2C SaaS or technology company and experience with companies of scale.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Strong experience with multi-entity and multi-currency accounting, as well as managing international taxes and regulations.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems and integrating related tools (experience with Netsuite, Ramp, or Rillet a strong plus).
  • Proven ability to improve processes and leverage automation tools (e.g., AI reconciliation, OCR invoice processing, automated close solutions).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and implement systems that support scalable growth.
  • Proven ability to build and lead teams with demonstrated mentorship and leadership capability.
  • Comfortable driving change and improving processes while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

To be a strong fit, you embody our Core Values:
