Primary Role:

The laboratory scientist will work with other laboratory scientists at Alto to perform experimental characterization of small molecule compounds. This is an ideal position for postdoctoral fellows in the Chicago area looking to transition to industry and work on cutting-edge research on compounds to treat psychiatric conditions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Perform experiments including ELISA, western blot and co-immunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy, nucleic acid extractions, molecular cloning and other molecular biology techniques, among others.

Carefully follow laboratory procedures and cell culture best practices.

Collaborate with computational biologists and managers to develop experimental study designs and interpret results.

Execute experimental study plans and document steps in the data collection process.

Produce data quality control reports and routinely present findings to leadership.

Collaborate with others in a mutually supportive and cooperative manner assisting others when possible to achieve study and project goals

LOCATION

Chicago, IL – 100% in person, office based

QUALIFICATIONS

Postgraduate degree in a Biology field (MS or PhD, PhD preferred). Neurobiology or neuroscience background is preferred. Postdocs looking to gain experience in industry are highly encouraged to apply.

Deep experience with mammalian cell culture. Experience working with neural cell lines is preferred.

Experience working with rodent models with obtained relevant certifications.

Experience with methodologies described above and ability to initiate experiments and generation of results with minimal training and onsite supervision.

Knowledge of appropriate statistical methods to quantify and analyze experimental data.

Knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacological concepts, and analysis methods is a plus.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Office, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and Graphpad Prism.

Excellent problem solving and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with internal and external collaborators.
