Responsibilities & Duties:

The R&D Engineer plays a crucial role in the clinical innovation department that will provide technical skills with a mix of mechanical, electrical, software, and R&D engineering solutions. By applying their proficiency in testing, they will actively participate in defining, analyzing, and implementing system requirements, risk analysis, and usability as well as provide input to cross functional deliverables. This individual will work on new projects from concept to commercialization and projects that maintain and adhere to Alto's clinical protocols and complies with regulatory standards. As an integral member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and optimizing bio-wearable device(s) (e.g., EEG device) tailored for use outside the clinic. Through collaborative efforts with cross-functional teams, they will play a key role in shaping the implementation of innovative features and testing strategies, guaranteeing the optimal performance, security, and usability of our bio-wearables and software applications.

Essential responsibilities include:

• Provide technical insight into the design and development of self-administered bio-wearables (e.g., EEG hardware), work on the usability of Alto’s bio-wearables and software applications, focusing on miniaturization, user-friendliness, and reliability.

• Collaborate cross-functionally and cross-disciplinary to develop, identify performance metrics, benchmarks, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for evaluation, refine data acquisition on devices and software.

• Assist in troubleshooting and debugging issues related to system performance and functionality.

• Contribute to prototype testing of different devices and sensors for on-going R&D efforts.

• Contribute to problem-solving within R&D project scopes.

• Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project reviews to provide insights and recommendations for system improvement related to performance, design, user interface, and data visualization.

• Stay updated with the latest advancements in R&D technology and neurocognitive research to drive innovation.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in both software and hardware components.

• Ensure all work adheres to all appropriate regulatory standards.

• Manage competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced startup environment.

Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (biomedical or electrical), Neuroscience, computer science, or related field.

• 2+ years of experience in neurotech (industry or graduate research experience)

• Proven experience in hardware design for measuring physiological signals like EEG, preferably in a consumer electronics or healthcare setting.

• Strong proficiency in circuit designs utilizing analog-to-digital converters (ADC)
